Affiliate Researcher

Mitch Pass is an affiliate researcher at PRISM helping to shape the organisation’s research agenda to ensure the prioritisation of digital consciousness as a key focus area for AI governance and safety efforts. Alongside this, he also serves as a Research Fellow at University College London working on the governance of emerging technologies at the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose.

He holds a PhD from the University of Sussex, where he examined the ethical implications of advanced AI through a framework of 'more than human' moral consideration. His research focuses on expanding current discussions of AI safety and alignment research to address the potential societal implications of sentient AI entities.
